What a week! This will be a short blog, because I’ve had no Internet access since Saturday and I’ve only just got it back, so I’m way behind with all my work – quite apart from everything else that’s been going on.
I’ve had my usual inspiring time at the hospital, although I got very angry about people who … but I can’t really talk about that in case they read my blog. I drove all the way to the prison where I work (and it’s a long way) only to find that the officers were on strike and so all the men were locked up for the day. I did a bit of paperwork, worked with a member of staff and came home. And I got angry again because they were striking about pensions; I’ve had letters recently about both my tiny public service pension and my tiny private sector pension; when I evened them up for length of service, hours worked a week, etc., the public service one is more than 5 times higher than the private sector one. Five times! I really think this is ridiculous.
I answered loads of emails and worked through my headache, as much as I could.
I had my first session with teenagers in a school inBirmingham, and they were terrific – full of good ideas, lively, and great fun. I’m going to enjoy the rest of this – but even there there were problems, which I won’t go into.
And there have been two ordinary rehearsals and the technical and dress rehearsal for the play. It has all been very fraught and difficult to handle – but I’m sure it will be fine on the night.
And no Internet. The final straw.
However, I have put together a new barbecue, single-handed, and this made me quite proud. And I’m reading a book by Steven Pinker. It probably sounds really sad, but I get excited about psycholinguistics.
Now I have another week to look forward to that will be just as busy – if not busier – than last week. I was going to have several rants about things, but I think I’ll just leave it as – aargh!
