Commissions and Publications

  • Poem When ice caps melt selected for inclusion in Offa’s Press anthology, We’re All in This Together, published October 2012.
  • Poem Swan awarded prize in the Final Chapters Writing Competition, and included in the prizewinners’ anthology.
  • Poems selected for use on poetry postcards, distributed throughout public libraries in the West Midlands, 2007 and 2011.
  • One-act play, Cuffed, awarded Geoffrey Whitworth trophy for best original play in the 2010 All UK Theatre Festival; accepted for publication October 2010.
  • One-act play, Cuffed, awarded 2010 Cheltenham One-Act Play Festival prize for best original play.
  • One-act play, Once this was a poet, published December 2010.
  • One-act play, Once this was a poet, performed as part of Cheltenham Literature Festival, 2008, and Ledbury Poetry Festival, 2009. This play reached the semi-finals of the national one-act play competition.
  • Co-authored article in Public Libraries Journal about Fulfilling their Potential Yorkshire and Humberside project, summer 2008.
  • One-act play, Once this was a poet, awarded 2008 Gloucestershire Dramatic Association One-Act Play Festival prize for best original play.
  • Wrote linking script for a schools’ singing event (Reasons for Singing project) for Cheltenham Music Festival, summer 2008; and a similar project (Sing East, Sing West) for Cheltenham Music Festival, summer 2009.
  • Wrote poems and prose pieces based on experiences of the Gloucestershire floods, described by local people, for Cheltenham Literature Festival’s Ten Days project (autumn 2007). The pieces were displayed at the Literature Festival and a selection broadcast on Radio Gloucestershire.

• Cheltenham Literature Festival: Commissioned for Words on Walkabout event, 2001. This involved walking around Cheltenham from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., writing about anything inspired by the walk, and performing the resulting 10-minute poem at 3 p.m. Since then, I have been commissioned as a railway poet (2002), poet in shoe shops (2003), litter poet (2004), poet in laundrettes (2005), betting shop poet (2006), poet in changing rooms (2007) and poet with families (2008).
• Gathered and wrote reminiscence material about the Gloucestershire floods for Gloucestershire Libraries and Archives, September 2007.
• Wrote linking script for a schools’ singing event (Amerisong project) for Cheltenham Music Festival, summer 2007.
• One-act play, Don’t give it another thought, awarded Gloucestershire Dramatic Association prize for best one-act play, 2005-2006, and Best Original Play prize as part of Cheltenham One-Act Play Festival, 2007.
• Various commissions, 1998 – 2006, to celebrate birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, etc.
• Commissioned to write poems for English and Danish football fans as international friendly football match poet, in London and Copenhagen, August 2005.
• Published first collection of poems, Where edges meet, spring 2001; second and third collections (Tightrope and Edgeways), summer 2005.
• Commissioned (2001) by Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum to write poems connected with exhibits for use in a Big Book to be used by Outreach and Education Department.
• Wrote scripts for BBC Call My Bluff television programme, 2000 – 2003.
• Two poems accepted for publication by The Erotic Review – but they aren’t all like that! Other publications include the Short Fuse anthology, and How do I love thee? prizewinners’ anthology.
